EducationPortland State University - BS, Arts and Letters
ExperienceI'm currently in my final year at Portland State University, where I'm pursuing a bachelor's degree in arts with a minor in philosophy. Throughout most of my time as a high school and college student, I've worked as a tutor in one capacity or another. When I wasn't tutoring professionally, I was helping my friends and family with their own homework and projects. This teaching experience has taught me the importance of a student-centered learning approach, which I incorporate into all of my lessons. I believe that the best way for someone to learn is to do more than memorize definitions and rules. They need to take a hands-on approach that involves activities that let them apply the knowledge they've already learned. Along with teaching writing and editing, I also like to tutor students interested in learning philosophy. For all of the subjects that I teach, I've found that the best way ensure a student succeeds is to help them stay motivated and confident in their own abilities so that they're willing to set challenging yet attainable goals for themselves. When I'm not teaching English, philosophy, and helping students prepare for standardized tests, I like to spend my time cooking, listening to music, and reading a good book.
