Experience
As a student at the University of Oregon (I am in the education program, and I am majoring in elementary school instruction and minoring in special education.), I have gained classroom experience at Edison Elementary School. The fourth-grade and fifth-grade youngsters I work with there have a diversity of backgrounds, and their abilities and levels of comprehension vary greatly. By tutoring children at Edison Elementary, I have learned a lot about how to reach a wide range of students who learn in a variety of ways.The subjects that I teach are algebra, math, science (including Earth science), English, reading, and writing. I believe that in order for teaching to be successful, there must be a conversation between the instructor and the student. I also believe that the learner should be actively engaged through a hands-on experience. I want my students to not only achieve a better understanding of the material but also to enjoy the process of learning and to be encouraged when they do well. These are my objectives as a tutor.Along with teaching, I like sports, food, and travel. I feel fortunate to be a resident of Oregon - it is a great place to pursue adventure and to take on new challenges, both of which I enjoy.
